A few things to share……
#1 NPU Unit G (line level) has won our arbitration against the state. This is great news. However, there is still work to be done. From this point forward, we need to put our contract to a vote with our Unit G members. Once that passes, the contract must go before the BOE (Board of Examiners) for a vote. The contract must get 2 of the 3 members of the BOE to vote “YES.” The BOE consists of 3 elected officials. The Governor, the Secretary of State, and the Attorney General. After, and hopefully it passes, the contract (pay bill) must be funded, voted on and passed by the Legislature. Once that occurs, the bill needs to be signed into law by the Governor. I will be meeting with Legislative leadership over the next few weeks to ensure this process goes off without a hitch. There are a lot of moving parts, but I will continue to be the “squeaky wheel!”
The arbitrator’s decision for Unit L (Supervisors) is expected in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned.
#2, I have received numerous texts and calls regarding the leadership, or lack of at NHP. Now that the Colonel and the Lt Colonel have retired and both positions remain empty, many have reached out to me with your thoughts and feelings on this matter. You have expressed your concern with the lack of a leader and wondering about direction for the division. Please reach out to me with your thoughts and concerns regarding this. I have already delivered the concerns and thoughts of those that have reached out and will continue to speak to the Director about the information being conveyed to me. I want to make one thing perfectly clear…..NPU will NOT be endorsing anyone, nor do I have any knowledge of who is in the running, just the names that you have brought to my attention. I am simply delivering the messages being brought to my attention. It is my job to be the voice of the membership and the purpose of me speaking with the Director is to inform him of the wants and concerns of NPU members. I want to squash any and all rumors that we have endorsed a single person for these vacancies but merely delivering information that you all have told me. It’s important for the Director to get all information, good, bad or indifferent regarding who could be the next Colonel of NHP.
